Fawcett's terrific double sinks The Silkmen
JD Cymru Premier
Haverfordwest County 4 – Flint Town United 1
Home grown talent Ben Fawcett came off the bench to grab two excellent second half goals to help Haverfordwest County to a thoroughly deserved victory against Flint Town United at the LHP Stadium, Carmarthen.
Ben Ahmun spot kick, Greg Walters close range effort put the hosts two up, The Silkmen’s Florian Yosnan pulled one back as the hosts led 2-1 at half time, after the break super sub Fawcett struck twice to maintain the Bluebirds impressive nine match unbeaten league and cup record.
Tony Pennock’s men are currently perched third in the table whilst the Silkmen who narrowly defeated the Bluebirds 1-0 earlier in the season sit third from bottom.
Haverfordwest County made three changes to the team that drew with Caernarfon Town. Alaric Jones, Dan Hawkins and Owain Jones start with Ricky Watts and Kyle Kenniford added to the bench.
The hosts were awarded an early penalty which Ben Ahmun put goalkeeper Jack Flint the wrong way, after keeper Flint had clumsily brought down Owain Jones inside the area.
Greg Walters pounced from a rebound for his side’s second when Kyle McCarthy’s corner was flicked on by Owain Jones as the keeper Flint fumbled it allowed the midfielder to react quickest to score.
Corey Shephard struck an instinctive 35 yard scorcher which narrowly missed the target. The visitors pulled one back as the Bluebirds defence got caught square at the back which allowed Yosnan through to neatly tuck his effort left footed past Zac Jones.
After the break, Lee Jenkins made excellent ground down the right as the central defender played a well weighted through ball to Fawcett, the striker took a first time shot which Flint stopped with his legs.
Fawcett added his side’s third as it was created by Ahmun who unselfishly squared for his co-striker striker who lashed home from six yards.
Livewire Fawcett glanced a header over the crossbar from a pinpoint free kick in the box by McCarthy, three minutes from time Fawcett won possession on the edge of the box, the striker finished exquisitely with a low 18 yard drive which found the bottom corner.
Substitute Harley Peagram looked like he had picked up a serious injury near the end of the game, everyone wishes the Flint 19-year-old a speedy recovery.
